Fallout on Prime, Season 2 Coming Soon

Does anyone else remember the days of terrible video game adaptations like Bloodrayne, House of the Dead, and Mortal Kombat (remember the claymation animalities)? Just take a look at this clip from the movie and tell me that wouldn’t have impressed you in 1997.

After seeing all these bad adaptations, I was convinced that we would never see a good video game movie or TV show. Cut to January 2023 and HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us. It was the perfect game to adapt to a TV show, and I knew it as soon as I played the original game on PS3. It could be taken whole cloth and just put on a TV screen, but instead of taking the easy route, Neil Druckmann, one of TLOU’s original creators, took the game and perfectly adapted it for a broader audience while compromising nothing from the source material. It’s truly a masterpiece that has enraptured gamers and non-gamers alike.

The new Fallout series on Amazon Prime has seemingly replicated that success. The show nails the tone, visual presentation, quirkiness, and violence of the game series, and Todd Howard, director of Bethesda Games and the Fallout Series, was helping showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy throughout the whole process. His deep knowledge of the franchise and their expertise came together to build a truly fun experience for everyone, Fallout game fan or not.

The show has become so popular that Amazon has already greenlit season 2, only a week after the initial release. If you are still on the fence about this series, give it a try!

Game Recommendations & Cheat Code

Sticking with the central theme this week, my game recommendation is Fallout 4! I briefly played FO4 when it was released in 2015, but since the show has come out, I’ve actually put more hours into the game than I did in 2015. Everything feels important in the game, and rightfully so, you are playing in a literal post-apocalyptic wasteland. Will I need this empty Nuka Cola bottle? Maybe. How about this random telephone that’s sitting in this office I broke into? Definitely.

The game doesn’t take it easy on you, so every step out of your known areas feels risky. A simple Bloatfly can randomly turn legendary and kill you in a second, and Deathclaws could be lurking around any corner. If you haven't played Fallout 4, you can get it on sale anywhere right now!

The cheat code for this week is also from Fallout 4. PC players can open the game console by hitting the ~ button and enter any number of commands, but the one that everyone wants is the God Mode command. Here it is:

  1. Open the console by pressing ~ on PC

  2. Enter ‘tgm’ in the console and hit Enter

  3. God Mode activated
